How is Domain Authority measured
and what are all these acronyms?
The meaning behind the metrics.
To get ranked, search engines need to trust that these domains provide relevant and valuable information.
Thanks to third party sources like Moz, Ahrefs, and Majestic, we can quantify that trust. A better score means higher ranking pages – and a higher quality backlinking opportunity.
Let’s take a quick look at a few of the main domain authority scores:
Domain Authority (DA) by Moz
Domain Authority (DA) is a score developed by Moz that predicts how likely a website is to rank well. Moz DA ranges from 1 to 100, with higher scores equalling a better domain (aka a better chance of ranking highly).
DA is calculated by evaluating multiple factors such as the number of backlinks pointing to a domain.
DA scores between 40 – 50 are considered average, with 50 – 60 being good and over 60 being excellent.
Domain Rating (DR) by Ahrefs
Domain Rating is a proprietary metric developed by Ahrefs to show the strength of a website’s total backlink profile as determined by size and quality. DR is measured on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100, with the 100 being the strongest.
Ahrefs’ algorithm calculates DR by looking at how many unique domains link to the website in question and the quality of those backlinks.
A DR of 30+ is considered to be good with 60+ being excellent.
Trust Flow (TF) and Citation Flow (CF) by Majestic
Trust Flow is a metric developed by Majestic to help predict the trustworthiness of a page based on the quality of its backlinks.
Citation Flow on the other hand, is largely calculated based on the overall volume of links.
Together, these metrics are used to help spot genuinely high-quality sites and weed out the spammy ones with questionable linking tactics.
According to Majestic, an ideal TF:CF ratio is 1:2. In other words, if a site has a TF of 20 and a CF of 75, you’ll want to steer clear of it!
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this tool free to use?
YES. Simply add your URLs (one URL per line and up to 10 URLs per 24 hours) and provide a valid email address. Once submitted, you’ll be taken inside the Loganix dashboard to view the results.
What is a good DA score?
The algorithm for calculating this score was developed by Moz. It ranges from 1 (the worst) to 100 (the best). Domain Authority between 40-50 is considered average; 50-60 good; 60+ is considered VERY good (A.K.A. high-authority sites).
Why is Domain Authority important?
Domain Authority is one of the quickest ways for assessing the SEO strength of a domain. Domains with higher Domain Authority scores are more likely to rank higher in organic search results. Higher DA sites generally perform better than lower DA sites, and because of this there is a direct correlation between high Domain Authority scores and their ranking potential.
What is the difference between Domain Authority and Page Authority?
Domain Authority is a measure of the strength of an entire domain or subdomain. Page Authority is a measure of just one page rather than the entire domain.
How do you increase trust flow?
There’s no secret sauce here, just good ol’ consistent SEO work. To increase TF, build authoritative backlinks, guest post on high-quality sites, build internal links, and continually audit your links to make sure they remain relevant.
